Following their WWE releases, the Motor City Machine Guns are expected to land in AEW.

With the Motor City Machine Guns two of the 25 names released by WWE this past weekend, many fans have pondered where the legendary duo of Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley will end up next.

Of course, Sabin and Shelley have an extensive history with TNA, both being TNA World Champions, both being TNA X Division Champions - Sabin a record ten times - and, as a tandem, three-time TNA Tag Team Champions. Away from TNA, MCMG reportedly opted against joining AEW to sign with WWE back in 2024.

Via Fightful Select, one TNA source said that there's always a home for the Motor City Machine Guns with the Anthem promotion, but this source believes that Sabin and Shelley will eventually land in AEW once they formally become free agents. Fightful adds that they've not heard if AEW has made contact with the team as of yet.

Those who Fightful spoke to in WWE were under the impression that the Motor City Machine Guns knew they'd do well and stay busy after their WWE exits, and they'll also continue to work on their band, GRPPLING. Sabin and Shelley were hoping to have wrestled more in WWE, though they were happy at least being used on TV.

From your writer's perspective, with WWE's tag team divisions in need of a major shot in the arm - paticulary SmackDown - it seems crazy to release a team as good as the Motor City Machine Guns, a hugely influential pairing when it comes to modern tag team wrestling. Either way, MCMG are expected to be free agents in July, and they'll surely be fine wherever they turn up next.
