The injury that purportedly kept Kofi Kingston from appearing on this week's episode of WWE Raw is legitimate.

This is according to PWInsider's Mike Johnson, who reports that while he cannot confirm whether or not Kingston has suffered from the "broken jaw" put over by WWE's announcers on Monday night, the former World Champion is suffering from a jaw issue.

Kingston's Raw absence came as his New Day stablemate Xavier Woods faced RETRIBUTION's T-Bar. Woods lost in around five minutes following heavy interference from T-Bar's own allies, with the announcers citing the broken jaw when talking about Kofi's absence. Given the regularity with which WWE uses worked injuries to further storylines and angles, it was impossible to take this at face value, though Johnson's report helps clarify the matter.

There's currently no word on the severity of Kofi's condition or when he'll be able to return.

The New Day dropped their Raw Tag Team Championships to The Hurt Business' Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin at TLC 2020 on 20 December, ending a 69-day reign that brought two successful defences against the new champs.

All the best to Kingston for a speedy recovery.
