Report: William Regal Finished With AEW, Finalizing WWE Deal

More reports surface that Regal is heading back to the company that released him in January.

Triple H William Regal

The reports keep piling in that William Regal has finished up with AEW and is WWE-bound.

Fightful Select reports that the MJF attack on AEW Dynamite last week was done to effectively write him off TV, with his deal apparently coming up later this month. An AEW source said that Regal was "done" and set to leave the company.

While Fightful indicated that there have been several rumors about how long Regal's deal actually runs, AEW sources all are assuming that he's leaving, while WWE sources believe he's on his way back. Regal debuted in AEW in March, having been released from WWE in January. Fightful added that Regal reportedly is finalizing a new deal with WWE, while those in WWE expect him to resume a similar role that he had before in NXT.

Meanwhile, PWInsider echoed that Regal is finalizing a deal and is expected to return to WWE after the new year in a backstage role.

It really should come as no surprise that Regal could very well be on his way back to WWE less than a year later, considering his relationship with Triple H, who was "very unhappy" about his release according to a source. You had to assume since taking control of WWE that Hunter would try to bring back one of his trusted lieutenants.

For what it's worth, AEW still lists William Regal on their roster page.
