"Enormous money" was reportedly thrown around for Steve Austin vs. Roman Reigns.

'Stone Cold' Steve Austin was pitched an "enormous" amount of money to face Roman Reigns in WWE at some point.

Fightful Select reported on Monday that it had previously heard of WWE pitching a "huge opponent" for Austin, who returned to the ring at WrestleMania 38. The outlet learned that this was Reigns, the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, with Austin at least approached about the big-money match.

Last year, Fightful reported that 'Stone Cold' had been extended an offer that wasn't as financially lucrative. Whether or not Austin has taken WWE up on the "enormous" sum is unclear, though one source has suggested that another "big name" had been floated to Austin in prior months.

Austin's WM 38 No Holds Barred match with Kevin Owens was his first in 19 years. His previous opponent, The Rock (WrestleMania XIX - March 2003) has long been linked to a potential WrestleMania 39 clash with Reigns, though whether or not this will actually happen remains a mystery. Saturday's Royal Rumble 2023 premium live event may provide clarity.

Owens is up next for Reigns at the Rumble, with Roman's run atop WWE now creeping towards the 900-day mark.
