Report: WWE Worried SummerSlam 2021 Could Be Cancelled?

WWE's contingency plan could involve heading back to the ThunderDome for SummerSlam.

SummerSlam 2021

WWE is preparing a contingency plan in case the promotion is prevented from holding SummerSlam 2021 (21 August) at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Per's Cassidy Haynes, there is an internal expectation within WWE that they may have to bring back the ThunderDome within the next few weeks. Haynes' sources believe that SummerSlam can or will be cancelled, at least at the Allegiant, where the promotion hopes to welcome over 40,000 fans later this month.

The report adds that WWE feels they may not be on the road in the next four weeks and are concerned about operating in a "non-contained environment," with the promotion anticipating further lockdowns.

COVID-19 cases are currently on the rise in the United States, with the Delta variant seemingly increasing transmissions. This could have a wide-reaching impact on every aspect of society, including professional wrestling, which has just welcomed live audiences back following the 16-month empty arena era.

The following matches have been announced for SummerSlam 2021 thus far:-

Universal Title: Roman Reigns (c) vs. John Cena

WWE Title: Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Goldberg

Raw Women's Title Triple Threat: Nikki A.S.H. (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley
