Rey Mysterio Had No Input On WWE 2K22's Showcase Mode

WWE legend Rey Mysterio wasn't consulted before the 2K22 Showcase was put together.

Rey Mysterio has revealed that 2K Games didn't ask him to help pick matches for his Showcase Mode feature in WWE 2K22.

The game's cover star wasn't throwing stones when he said that - he told Complex, "I don’t think I needed to have a say in it, because the matches that are showcased here are historical". Rey trusted 2K to make the right calls and select bouts that'd do his iconic career justice.

Fans on social media don't think they did.

There are some baffling omissions from the Showcase. For example, Mysterio's World Heavyweight Title win from WrestleMania 22 isn't included in the mode. Kurt Angle isn't a character in 2K22, so 2K left that one out. Similarly, his debut match vs. Chavo Guerrero from the 25 July 2002 SmackDown isn't in there either.

Like Angle, Chavo isn't on 2K's roster.

Despite that, Rey described getting the cover spot and a Showcase on his career as "a blessing". A few reviews suggest that the mode could've been better had the match choice been a little more...exhaustive. Mysterio, meanwhile, is just happy that 2K came knocking.
