Ric Flair BEGGED Tony Khan To Do This At AEW Revolution 2024

Sting's retirement almost included a shock swerve, but AEW boss Tony Khan said no.

Ric Flair wanted to turn on Sting one last time at AEW's recent Revolution 2024 pay-per-view, but boss Tony Khan decided to go with the icon and Darby Allin retaining their titles vs. The Young Bucks as planned.

Conrad Thompson revealed via Tony Schiavone's 'What Happened When' podcast that his father in law begged him to have a word with Khan and change his mind. Conrad thought Ric should be the one to do it, but Flair was looking for backup.

Part of Ric's pitch was that him turning on the Stinger had "only worked 10 other times" in the NWA and WCW over the years. Convincing Tony Khan to veer away from a Sting and Darby win was mission impossible though - the AEW chief was determined to end the legend's career on a high.

There were worries before Revolution that Flair would try everything to make the moment all about him. Even Thompson has opined that Sting ending on a high with his sons was the best course of action.

No 'Nature Boy' swerve needed. It just wasn't happening on AEW's watch in 2024.
