Roman Reigns Beats Brock Lesnar, Unifies WWE & Universal Titles At WrestleMania 38
Roman Reigns felled Brock Lesnar in last night's Winner Take All match at WWE WrestleMania 38.
Roman Reigns is now WWE's undisputed top champion, having defeated Brock Lesnar in WrestleMania 38's 'Winner Take All' match for the Universal and WWE Championships.
Dubbed 'The Biggest Match in WrestleMania History' by WWE, the match played out in typical, Paul Heyman-influenced fashion, with gigantic momentum swings throughout. Effectively a signature move shootout, it brought multiple trips to Suplex City, Superman punches, spears, F5s, and more, as well as a call-back to Crown Jewel 2021, when Heyman slid Roman a title belt following a ref bump.
That didn't lead to the finish, though. Instead, Reigns scored the pinfall on his rival after hitting one final spear, having escaped an F5. Thus, he is now the unified Undisputed and WWE Champion.
Now undefeated in over two years, Reigns has been Universal Champion since August 2020, when he took the strap from Bray Wyatt in a Payback 2020 Triple Threat also featuring Braun Strowman. This would actually be his first WWE Title reign since June 2016, though it looks like he will be referred to as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion going forward.
While Roman will be presented as a unified champion for at least a short period, it is believed that WWE will eventually break its two top titles away again. When this will happen is currently unclear.
