Roman Reigns dumped Paul Heyman as his 'Special Council' on Friday's episode of SmackDown.

The reigning Universal Champion said he didn't like the way Heyman had handled business during his absence last week. When Paul E went to explain that he was protecting Roman from Brock Lesnar (not the other way about), Reigns hugged his manager then smashed him with a big Superman Punch.

Roman then teased a Con-Chair-To on Heyman before Lesnar made the dramatic save.

The segment ended with Brock taking out The Usos before blasting Reigns with his F5 - this, presumably, means that Lesnar and Heyman will get back together on screen before WWE's Day 1 pay-per-view on 1 January. There, Roman is set to defend his Universal belt against Brock one-on-one.

That main event just got a little spicier.

A split between Reigns and Heyman has been on the cards for a while, but few actually thought WWE would go through with it until after WrestleMania 38 at the earliest. The company obviously felt this rivalry needed a shot in the arm.

It got one. A big one. Roman and Paul are no more.
