Ryback Debuts His New Goldberg Look
Ryback finally embraces the Goldberg comparison.
Ryback has changed his look to appear more like WCW Icon Bill Goldberg, debuting the new gimmick at last night's Smackdown taping, where he defeated Erick Rowan. Comparisons between the two men have been made for years, with many fans chanting "Goldberg" during Ryback's 2013 push. It got to the point where there was even some talk of one day doing a Ryback versus Goldberg match, seeing as the similarities were so clear. Both men resented the comparisons, with Ryback visibly irritated at the chants. He wanted to break out on his own, but now he's obviously figured that it could be worth embracing Goldberg's look. Visual presentation propelled the WCW star to huge levels of success, and Ryback will be hoping for the same effect. Looks matter in this business, and he's certainly looking meaner in the above shot. The ring style of both men is also similar, with a stiff brawling aspect to their game. As CM Punk infamously stated, Ryback is dangerous in the ring and the same accusation was also made of Bill Goldberg when he injured Bret Hart with a career ending kick. In truth, Goldberg did what he did well: he had some good matches and his style worked for him when booked in short thrilling bouts. As for Ryback, maybe WWE need to start booking his matches like the WCW star, because up to now, he's sucked in the ring.
