Samoa Joe Admits He Loved "Popping The Boys" On Commentary
WWE commentary isn't something Joe sees in his future, but he loved having a laugh.
Samoa Joe told Ryan Satin's 'Out Of Character' podcast that he loved "popping the boys" when he was doing colour commentary in WWE.
The ex-Raw announcer, who has since rejoined the company and been recast as an enforcer on NXT, admitted that his banter-filled calls "sound selfish" now. Even so, he couldn't resist making the men and women on WWE's roster laugh or feel good about themselves because of his commentary.
Amazing.
Joe also told Satin that he has a new-found respect for guys like Michael Cole and Tom Phillips after sitting behind the desk with them. He could hear all of the same production cues and instructions coming through his headphones, and he still can't believe that those guys are able to multi-task like they do.
It's a skill, and it's something the Samoan is glad he was there to experience first-hand. That doesn't mean Joe fancies putting the headset back on when he eventually retires full-time from the ring though - in fact, Joe doesn't see himself "transitioning" to broadcasting post-wrestling at all.
Maybe he'll change his mind if WWE lets him pop everyone backstage some more.
