Seth Rollins Vacates WWE Title Due To 6-9 Month Injury
Survivor Series Tournament announced to crown new champion!
WWE.com is reporting that Seth Rollins has been forced to vacate the WWE title. Rollins suffered a serious knee injury at Wednesday's WWE live event in Dublin. According to ESPN's Jonathon Coachman, he has ACL/MCL/medial meniscus tears that will require surgery and that will put him out of action 6-9 months. The injury happened during last night's main event with Kane when Rollins landed after jumping off the top rope. It was also announced by Coachman that WWE will be holding a WWE Title tournament at Survivor Series to crown a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. A story on WWE.com notes that details of the WWE Title tournament have not been finalized. Here's a photo of the injury that occurred after Rollins jumped off the top rope in his match with Kane and landed awkwardly on the leg. https://twitter.com/TheCoachESPN/status/662355436834832384 This is sad news because Rollins has arguably been WWE's best performer this year and probably was last year too. Now they're going to be without him for at least half a year. This almost certainly means he'll miss WrestleMania because that's in five months. Most athletes don't get back from ACL tears in less than six months and as good an athlete as Rollins is, it's unlikely that he would beat that timetable. As for the tournament, there are no details out right now. It's likely going to be something they figure it out in the next day or two as this of course was completely unexpected. Maybe WWE will announce something on WWE.com or use social media to have somebody like Triple H or Stephanie McMahon record a video to announce something.
