Sgt Slaughter Congratulates Jon Moxley For Leaving WWE

The Tweet seemingly makes a jab at the WWE CEO.

WWE Hall of Famer Sgt. Slaughter took to social media on Monday to congratulate AEW Champion Jon Moxley for managing to leave WWE without having to take things to the courtroom.

The former WWE Champion also noted in his tweet that he had been the first to go up against "The Emperor" in his fight for freedom.

This is presumably a reference to when Slaughter, real name Robert Remus, trademarked the Sgt. Slaughter name after a dispute with the WWE chairman about merchandising royalties in the mid-80s, which prompted McMahon to fire Slaughter and replace him with the short-lived Corporal Kirchner, with the royalties dispute ultimately being settled out of court.

Slaughter would later make several returns to WWE including winning his only world championship with the company, before being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004.

What makes this news even stranger, is that at the time of writing Slaughter is currently signed to the WWE as part of the Ambassador programme.

The tweet comes after Moxley retained his AEW World Championship at Saturday's Double or Nothing event with a win over fellow WWE alumn Brodie Lee.
