When Michaels went down with a crippling back injury in January of 1998, that could have been the journey over for The Showstopper. If it was, he would have still retired at the very top of the game, going out in the main event of WrestleMania featuring Mike Tyson, against the white-hot 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, but HBK's reputation today wouldn't have been described as favourably as it ended up.

Not only did he come back from the career-threatening injury, but overcame his substance issues and came back better than ever. His first match upon returning was a classic brawl with best bud Triple H, and Michaels never looked back. A one-off Street Fight became a full-on feud with The Game, a World title win, and eight more years of dazzling performances.

Michaels had one match back home in Texas two years before returning to WWE, and that was it. He comes back at SummerSlam and wrestles nearly half an hour, taking belt shots, table bumps, ladder spots, you name it.

Just like he did for his whole career, Shawn Michaels made everyone take notice that night.
