With prior rumblings that Kevin Owens and 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin would close out Night 1 of WrestleMania 38, such rumblings have now gained further traction.

Speaking on today's Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that the current word doing the rounds in WWE is that Owens and Austin will indeed be in the main event spot come this Saturday.

Meltzer discussed how there was at one point discussions of possibly closing out Night 1 of 'Mania with Ronda Rousey challenging for Charlotte Flair's SmackDown Women's Championship, but that the decision has now been made to move forward with The KO Show in the main event spot on that first night.

Of course, as is ever the case with WWE, plans can always change between now and the weekend, but at this point it seems as if the return of Stone Cold will get headline billing.

What that 'return' consists of remains to be seen, with the Bionic Redneck 'only' advertised to be a guest on The KO Show. Earlier in the year saw reports that WWE was looking to have a proper Austin vs. Owens match, and that could well end up being the case. The most likely scenario at this stage, though, would appear to be some sort of prolonged brawl across AT&T Stadium from the two.
