TMZ claims today that Sting is soon to announce his retirement from pro wrestling, due to the neck injury he suffered against Seth Rollins at WWE's Night Of Champions PPV last September. The website claims from their sources that Sting has been evaluated by doctors who all agree that it is too risky for him to ever get back inside the squared circle. "We're told the 56-year-old was formally diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis -- a condition affecting the nerves that can result in extreme pain and discomfort," TMZ's report states. This was the same condition that forced Edge to retire in 2011. TMZ claims that Sting is open to a none physical role in WWE, but that no offer has yet been made. He'll reportedly use his WWE Hall Of Fame induction speech on April 2nd to formalise the retirement where he is being inducted as the marquee star for the class of 2016. Steve "Sting" Borden turns 57 next week and his last match didn't look good with the neck injury. He's one of the all time best workers in the industry, with his WCW legacy providing some of the best matches and moments of the nineties. He avoided WWE for many years, only wrestling his first match for the company at last year's WrestleMania 31 against Triple H. He lost that night, and went on to lose against Seth Rollins in September. As brief as the WWE run was, it meant a lot to finally see him in a WWE ring and getting one final big pay day before his retirement.
