A common role for returning stars or big name wrestlers and celebrities is being a special guest referee. The role allows the person to be very involved in the match. He or she could determine the outcome of the match as the special guest referee. He or she can also be very involved in the match and storyline without getting too physically involved. One of the main concerns of Sting debuting in WWE is his physical condition. He is getting older and cannot perform the same way he could when he was in WCW. As such, WWE could book him as a special guest referee to limit his physicality in the company, while still making a big impact. Now, one must question if he is going to be a special guest referee, then why have the casting call? Even as a referee, Sting could still have a dramatic entrance.
