With AEW having announced that The Pinnacle and The Inner Circle will do battle in a Blood and Guts contest on the 5 May episode of AEW Dynamite, now comes word that this bout will be the one and only match to take place on that Dynamite offering.

As per Wrestling Observer Radio, it’s expected that a few pre-taped segments will also air on that 5 May Dynamite, but the majority of the episode will be dedicated to MJF and Chris Jericho’s respective factions doing battle.

From what’s been said before, the Blood and Guts match will pull plenty of inspiration from the NWA’s original concept for WarGames.

That means that Blood and Guts will feature two side-by-side rings that are encased by a roofed steel cage. A five-on-five affair that sees individual wrestlers added the bout after a set time period, the match can only be won once all ten competitors have entered the contest – with submission/surrender being the only way to pick up the victory.

Previously, AEW had plans to have a Blood and Guts match on the 25 March 2020 episode of Dynamite. That would’ve seen The Inner Circle take on Matt Hardy and The Elite’s Kenny Omega, Hangman Page and The Young Bucks, but the match was replaced at that year's Double or Nothing by the brilliant Stadium Stampede once the global pandemic hit.
