The Miz Defeats Dolph Ziggler For The Intercontinental Title On WWE SmackDown
Miz to defend title against Raw's Sami Zayn at Survivor Series.
In a hot opener on the 900th episode of Smackdown, The Miz defeated Dolph Ziggler to recapture the WWE Intercontinental Championship. As a result, The Miz will now be defending the belt against Raw's Sami Zayn at the upcoming Survivor Series Pay-Per-View.
The Miz won the Intercontinental Championship from Zack Ryder on the episode of Raw following WrestleMania 32, and proceeded to rack up the longest reign with the title in years. After becoming exclusive to the Smackdown brand, The Miz got face to face with GM Daniel Bryan on Talking Smack, calling the former WWE World Champion a coward and sending him stomping off in a fury.
The following week on Smackdown, Dolph came to Bryan's defense, challenging The Miz to an Intercontinental Title match. With some help from Maryse, Miz stole victories over Dolph at Backlash and on Smackdown, but at No Mercy - when Dolph put his career on the line - he managed to capture the title.
As champion, Dolph laid down an open challenge to any Raw superstar at the Survivor Series - which Sami Zayn accepted. Now that The Miz has captured his sixth Intercontinental Title, though (with some help from Maryse and The Spirit Squad), he'll be defending the title against the former NXT Champion.
Survivor Series airs live on the WWE Network this Sunday at 8:00 PM ET.
