The Original WWE Nexus 8: Where Are They Now?

3. Darren Young

Darren Young, and here comes that refrain again, was another unremarkable graduate of WWE's developmental system under the shrugging direction of the inept John Laurinaitis. Absolutely nothing differentiated Young from his Florida Championship Wrestling peers. He wrestled and even moved in exactly the same fashion as everybody else, and upon his banishment from the Nexus on the post-SummerSlam 2010 RAW, he soon found himself back on the same game show he had revolted against.

Paired subsequently with Titus O'Neil to form the Prime Time Players, they achieved (nominal) success by capturing Tag Team gold before the inevitable split. This manifested as an FCW match held on pay-per-view, at Elimination Chamber 2014, following which Young did precisely nothing. In a desperation "Why not?" gesture, the Prime Time Players reformed in 2016, and what's almost impressive is that Young and O'Neil contrived to string together an even more underwhelming singles feud after the fact.

But it was all going to be OK. WWE had plans to Make Darren Young Great Again!

Paired in 2016 with Bob Backlund as his Life Coach, this utterly bizarre Trump-inspired riff saw Backlund b*llock Young for his inability to shop correctly, or something. This invited nothing but When Was Darren Young Ever Great? jibes.

A bang-average performer without whom WWE would not have changed in the least, Young, who following his 2017 release has wrestled for the ironically named Big Time Wrestling, nevertheless deserves massive praise for coming out as gay in a regressive environment.

Statistically, he cannot be alone - but here's hoping that his bravery will one day change something more important than a classic pro wrestling match.
