Ever since Charlotte surprisingly lost the WWE Women's Championship last Monday night on the first RAW of the new era, there has been much speculation on why the title switch happened. It had long been reported that Charlotte versus Sasha Banks was booked for SummerSlam, and most assumed the switch would happen there.

There were originally some reports circulating online that Charlotte dropped the title because she is taking time-off. These reports are false. Charlotte is booked on the house show circuit for the foreseeable future, and according to PWInsider, she has not requested any time off.

It turns out that the reason for the switch was WWE just wanting to do something surprising on the first RAW of the new brand-split era. With Charlotte holding the title for so long, WWE officials feel the new Women's Championship has a strong foundation now and they are open to switching it more often.

The plans still call for a Charlotte/Banks rematch this year at SummerSlam for the belt, according to a report from F4WOnline. Both women have strong backing from higher up WWE officials, with Vince McMahon a huge fan of Charlotte's work and Triple H strongly believing in Banks as the face of the women's division.
