The Shocking REAL Reason Why Goldberg Won At WrestleMania XX

Hell hath no fury like Vince McMahon scorned.

Stone Cold Steve Austin, Goldberg, Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg at 'Mania XX will forever go down in history as one of the most bizarre WrestleMania matches ever. Fans inside Madison Square Garden, knowing both men were leaving promptly after the bout, showered the pair with trolling chants and only reacted positively to special ref Steve Austin.

Afterwards, Vince McMahon washed his hands of both.

In an interview with Inside The Ropes, Goldberg revealed why he (and not Lesnar) was picked to win the infamous bout. Apparently, it was because McMahon "wanted to kill Brock more" than he did Bill - the boss was smarting over losing someone he'd personally invested in for years, and he viewed that as way worse than shedding the WCW-created Goldberg.

Without that controversy-laced win in New York 16 years ago, Goldberg isn't sure if WWE would have ever brought him back in 2016. To Bill, losing at 'Mania XX would've been a permanent death sentence on his career with the company.

The outcome came down to one thing: Goldberg or Brock Lesnar? Who did Vince hate less? It turns out, at the time, it was big Bill.
