7. Kurt Angle’s Disgraceful Retirement (WrestleMania 35)

Speaking of things that just shouldn't have happened.

Initially, it was tempting to put the botched finish to the Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair main event here, but Kurt Angle's retirement bash vs. Baron Corbin at 'Mania 35 is something WWE should always be ashamed of. The legend ended his 2 year comeback run with a rubbish 6-minute loss to Corbin on the biggest night of 2019, and few could believe what they were seeing.

The match was squeezed awkwardly between Triple H vs. Batista and Finn Bálor vs. Bobby Lashley for the Intercontinental Title pre-main event. In other words, it was in a "death spot" before the IC lads had their say. Poor Finn, eh? Forever the bridesmaid - lad can't even get first dibs on a nothing spot!

Seriously though, a legend like Angle who'd literally broken bones and suffered through constant pain for the company cause definitely deserved way better than this when he was bowing out. Corbin wasn't especially over as a heel during his dire 'Constable'/snooker referee days, and fans in New York snoozed their way through what was a turgid send off for an Olympic great.

Look at the retirement bash WWE gave Ric Flair, then compare it to this. Then, analyse what each man meant to the company. Not pro wrestling overall, just WWE. Angle had a better sustained run between 1999-2006 than Ric did between 1991-1993 and 2001-2008, and yet...this is how they planned to honour him?!

Kurt tried to palm this off and eat it at the time, but he's since admitted that it was a lowly way to end his in-ring career.
