This Surprising WWE Icon LOVED Some Original ECW

You won't believe who watched Paul Heyman's ECW pretty carefully during the 1990s.

'Did You Know?' time: Randy Savage was a hidden fan of the original ECW promotion, and even revealed to Rob Van Dam during their only conversation ever that he thought the high-flyer could "have a really good future" in major companies if he played his cards right.

RVD told this story via his 'One Of A Kind' podcast, but didn't detail exactly when it took place. He just recalls having some drinks with a few wrestlers out on the road, then Brian Knobbs introducing 'Macho Man' to him. Perhaps surprisingly, they hit it off pretty well, and Savage was extremely complimentary of the younger star.

He even offered to put a word in with top brass at WCW "if [Rob] wanted to go down that route". Van Dam walked away from the convo with loads of respect for Randy - he already had plenty of it, but was left surprised that the WWE legend was so laid back and cool with him.

It's also fun to find out that 'Mach' took in some of Paul Heyman's product during his downtime. Maybe he appreciated Rob's top rope finish!
