AJ Styles has revealed that none other than Steve Austin warned him his ring attire was "almost too much".

AJ told the 'A Couple In' podcast that Austin approached him privately with some advice when he joined WWE back in 2016. The legend believed that some of Styles' outfits were a bit too elaborate, and thought it'd be for the best if AJ toned things down.

After all, Styles debuted at the 2016 Royal Rumble in a plain black leather gilet. He didn't actually start jazzing up his entrance jackets until a good few months into his run with the company. Nonetheless, AJ claims that 'Stone Cold' said "less is more", and that Styles heeded his advice "within weeks".

It's possible that AJ could have his dates mixed up here - it's either that or Austin wasn't a fan of the Bullet Club threads he was rocking over in New Japan.

The legend did become wrestling's biggest star by wearing humble black boots and tights, so he knows a thing or two about this stuff. Still, he was surely referring to some of AJ's flashier outfits a little later in 2016.
