An unexpected authority figure angle uncharacteristic of All Elite Wrestling played out on last night's Dark: Elevation debut show, with company president Tony Khan confronting World Champion Kenny Omega.

Khan was drawn out from the backstage area as The Best Bout Machine attacked Matt Sydal following Sydal's win over Michael Nakazawa. Omega had previously stated that if Matt beat Michael Nakazawa, he'd get a non-title match with Kenny at a later date.

Omega decided that his match with Sydal would happen there and then, pinning Matt following a One-Winged Angel - and out came Tony.

Putting on a bizarre vocal inflection, Khan confirmed that Sydal and Omega would go one-on-one on the 24 March episode of Dynamite. It'll be a non-title match, but Matt will get a shot at the gold if he's able to defeat Kenny, who last defended the strap at Revolution 2021 on 7 March.

Though Khan has made several onscreen appearances in AEW since its launch, this was his most overt yet, and will hopefully be the last of this nature. While the angle offered nothing to suggest that this will become a regular occurrence, it was exactly the kind of thing AEW has marketed itself against.
