Top AEW Star Suffers Neck & Back Injuries
One of AEW's top singles wrestlers could be set for a spell on the sidelines.
Sammy Guevara was injured on this week's episode of AEW Dynamite, where he was defeated by Scorpio Sky in a TNT Title ladder match.
Dave Meltzer writes in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the 28-year-old was hurt early in the hard-bumping match. Guevara came off a ladder with an attempted 630 body block but was moving too quickly for Sky to break the fall, meaning Sammy landed on his neck and shoulder. Though Guevara was able to continue the match, this spot was followed by Sky stalling for a few moments while the defending TNT Champion was grounded, recovering from the impact.
On the West Coast, AEW/TBS ended up blacking out the side of a picture-in-picture ad break that would usually show the action during this period.
Tay Conti striking Sky then gave Guevara another opportunity to recover. After that, he went all-out on physicality, taking several impactful bumps - including an airborne TKO from Sky after leaping from one ladder to another.
There is currently no word on Sammy's injury's severity or whether or not he will be forced to miss television time. Guevara has claimed he will be okay, but that's the extent of it so far.
All the best to Sammy in his recovery.
