Top AEW Title Contender Injured

Injury means a top contendership spot is up for grabs in AEW.

Top All Elite Wrestling title contender Kris Statlander is injured, meaning her lofty position in the company's rankings was briefly up for grabs.

Statlander had been ranked as the number two woman in the promotion on its 3 August rankings. This would put her in contention for a shot at Women's World Champion Thunder Rosa or TBS Champion Jade Cargill until AEW announced her injury on last night's special Quake by the Lake episode of Dynamite.

Kris had disappeared from the 10 August rankings completely, sparking speculation she was hurt. Now, with Statlander out of the picture, Toni Storm is Rosa's next challenger, with Athena seemingly in line to face Cargill after an ambush on last night's show.

Athena hit the ring, having disguised herself as a Baddie, following Jade's win over Madison Rayne. This bout has been brewing for several months, the bulk of which had seen Athena and Statlander aligned.

There is currently no word on the nature of Statlander's injury, nor has AEW indicated how long she will be out of action for. Dark's 9 August episode (taped four days prior) hosted her last match.
