Top NXT prospect Kacy Catanzaro has left WWE.

The well-connected Squared Circle Sirens broke the news late last night, reporting that the former American Ninja Warrior participant had decided to call time on her professional wrestling career after suffering a back injury. She hadn't competed since a 19 July NXT house show.

The 29-year-old signed with WWE in January 2018, having undergone a tryout at the Performance Center one year prior. Debuting at a live event that April, she'd go on to appear in the in the 2018 Mae Young Classic tournament, besting Reina Gonzalez in the first round before falling to Rhea Ripley in an impressive showing at the next stage.

Catanzaro had since made three appearances on the main NXT weekly show, with her most recent bout a 25-second DQ loss to Io Shirai at the 13 June tapings. Though she had yet to break into a regular televised role, she stood out for her enthusiasm, athleticism, unique movements, and gif-worthy spots like scaling the ring post. It's a shame that she's had to call it a day in the promotion, but fair play to Catanzaro for making the best decision for her long-term health.
