There's been a lot of talk about top heel Gunther potentially missing out on a WrestleMania 42 payday as rumours persist that Rey Mysterio's injuries will wreck WWE's chances of booking that match. Now, WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select have swooped in to allay fears the Austrian won't be in Las Vegas.

According to their write up, "sources within WWE claim that Gunther is still expected for a substantial role at WrestleMania despite his recent absence". There's no word yet on precisely what the villain will be doing on the Saturday or Sunday nights next month, but he is likely going to be in town regardless.

It seems that Triple H has a backup plan.

Interestingly enough, one of Fightful's sources indicated "that having Gunther miss WrestleMania wouldn't benefit anyone involved". That's a fair point - he's retired Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles in less than a full year, so it probably wouldn't make sense for Gunther to cool off and miss the biggest shows of 2026.

He kinda has to do something in Vegas.

Mysterio's rib injury has pressed pause (or maybe even stop!) on that booking, but there are always others Gunther can work with. WWE only has a few weeks to set something up though, so they'd best get moving on Mondays ASAP.

To summarise, anyone concerned that Gunther was going to sit on the sidelines/in catering for 'Mania 42 can rest easy. He'll be there in some capacity.
