This beloved WWE star missed a big chunk of time, but he's back for WrestleMania 40.

Rey Mysterio romped back onto WWE TV for the first time in almost four months during Friday's episode of SmackDown. Fans were very pleased to see the LWO leader again, especially when he revealed he didn't actually need crutches after all.

That was a delicious ruse designed to fool Santos Escobar and the rest of Legado del Fantasma.

Mysterio bounced back into view amidst a fun 'Street Fight' between Escobar and LWO stablemate Carlito. At first, it seemed like he'd be easy pickings for the heels, but Rey tossed his crutches to the side and hit his iconic 619 finish to a huge pop.

People had been wondering if the legend would be medically cleared in time for an expected grudge match vs. Santos at WrestleMania 40. SmackDown had answers on that: Mysterio is back in a big, big way, and the path seems clear towards that showdown.

Admittedly, although WWE has done a neat job with Escobar's heel run thus far, Santos had been floundering a little on TV lately. Rey's comeback was the ammunition he needed to secure a main card spot in Philadelphia this April.

Bring it on.
