Rey Mysterio has been moved from Raw to SmackDown.

The masked legend was shown quitting WWE in a backstage segment on Friday before Triple H called him into his office. Then, Mysterio showed up as part of a four-way bout later on the broadcast and became new number one contender for Gunther's Intercontinental Title.

That'll be some match, but the brand switch thing is puzzling given WWE's current climate - wrestlers often show up on "rival shows" without any rhyme or reason these days. If Rey is exclusive to Friday nights, then other workers shouldn't be able to appear on other brands just because creative feels like it.

Perhaps it's bold to suggest that WWE will follow its own rules with the brand extension stuff in 2022.

Regardless, Mysterio vs. Gunther should be one hell of a match. It's also nice to see Rey do something different to feuding with Judgment Day and his own son Dominik. WWE might want to put that storyline on ice for now and focus on other things.

Mysterio beat Ricochet, Sheamus and Bloodline newbie Solo Sikoa to become number one contender for the IC belt.
