UFC Drop CM Punk Name In New Reebok Merchandise

Looks like Punk will be fighting as plain old Philip Brooks.

UFC and Reebok unveiled their first official fighter uniforms on Tuesday morning. Interestingly, the CM Punk kit was emblazoned with "Philip Brooks" instead of his more marketable stage name. The kits are already being criticised for their generic look and the expensive costs they'll be retailing at. With Punk's shirt, they really missed a trick by not having "CM Punk" as the name featured. That's where his main value is, as he always proved to be a big merchandise seller for the WWE in the past. Instead, they've gone with "Philip Brooks", so presumably that is what he's going to be billed as in his fights. What's odd is that all his name value is tied up in "CM Punk" and that's why UFC originally signed him. The other thing is that Reebok may have botched his name, as past spellings have been "Phillip" and he tends to just go by "Phil" when featured elsewhere. All UFC fighters will be competing in Reebok kits from now on. It is a step in the right direction with a big brand, but the generic kits are hardly going to be flying off the merchandise stalls at $80 a pop. UFC and Reebok could have made lucrative revenues off CM Punk merchandise, but the Philip Brooks kit is hardly likely to be that desired.
