Wade Barrett Set For Full-Time WWE Return?
Former Nexus leader to replace Mauro Ranallo in NXT?
Wade Barrett is currently negotiating with WWE over a potential full-time return to the promotion.
This is according to PWInsider's Mike Johnson, who states that the two parties are currently in talks with the hope of ironing out a deal, though any contract would be for a commentary position, not a wrestling role.
One might look at Mauro Ranallo's recent departure from the promotion and consider Barrett a natural replacement for the popular play-by-play announcer on NXT, though Johnson notes Wade may also be used for NXT UK. It is also stated that WWE has been interested in bringing him back since early 2020.
Barrett returned to WWE for the first time since his 2016 release on last week's NXT, calling the action from the announce booth. He had previously left the company after deciding against signing a new deal and has stayed active in wrestling through such promotions as WCPW/Defiant and the NWA, where he replaced Jim Cornette on commentary in December 2019, receiving acclaim for his Powerrr performances.
Last week's return drew widespread plaudits for Barrett, who'd make a welcome addition to WWE's full-time commentary pool - if a deal can be struck.
