WEIRD Drama Over Impending WWE Return - But It's Happening!
A complex web of reports with one ultimate destination: WWE.
A strange series of contradictory reports over Kairi Sane's WWE return unfolded on Thursday, but it looks like the comeback is happening.
WrestleVotes reported yesterday that Sane - who recently wrapped her run with Japan's leading joshi group, Stardom - had been added to WWE's internal roster ahead of a long-rumoured comeback, tweeting:
After what feels like months of speculation, I’m told Kairi Sane has reappeared on the internal talent roster. Her return to the company is imminent.
This was quickly shot down by PWInsider's Mike Johnson. In a since-deleted post, PWInsider stated that the initial report was incorrect, with Sane "... not listed internally for any roster or even on the company's Misc. division as of this morning."
WrestleVotes responded, stating that Kairi was in the roster's misc. section - and was the 18th name on the list alongside such talents as Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and The Undertaker:
I’m told Mike Johnson of PW Insider has refuted this. Mike has us blocked, so I’ll ask you publicly to double check with your source. As of this morning Kairi Sane is listed under the MISC section of the internal company roster. For complete transparency, the MISC section currently reads as Stephanie McMahon, HHH, Undertaker, Austin, Tyler Breeze & Titus O’Neil. There are 18 names total across 3 columns. The 18th name is Kairi Sane. Mike, if you’d like to dispel your rumor and also unblock us, we can discuss further.
Later, Johnson published a new report to PWInsider, stating that Sane had been added to WWE's internal roster after 2 PM on Thursday. The writeup stated:
There were rumors earlier today that Sane had been added, but PWInsider.com was told that at the time that was not correct. The same sources later informed us Sane was added to the roster this afternoon but has not yet been assigned to a roster.
Ultimately, it looks like Kairi Sane's WWE return is on. Johnson broke the news of the former NXT Women's Champion's impending comeback back in August.
Kairi has effectively been out of WWE as an in-ring competitor since July 2020, though she occupied an ambassadorial role for the market-leading promotion until October 2021.
