What a turbulent couple of weeks it's been for NXT's Wes Lee.

The superstar reached the tag team mountaintop during WrestleMania 38 weekend when MSK regained the NXT Tag Team Championship at NXT Stand and Deliver, defeating Imperium for the titles. Just days later, MSK was stripped of the titles when Nash Carter was released due to a photograph of him mimicking a Nazi salute with a Hitler-like moustache. Carter's wife Kimber Lee also had made numerous domestic abuse allegations against him on Twitter.

The NXT tag titles were up for grabs last week in a five-team gauntlet match. Wes Lee was not part of that match, nor was he mentioned.

Tuesday, Lee resurfaced in a backstage interview where he alluded to the tough month he's had and how his confidence was shaken, but he was interrupted by Xyon Quinn, who sneered at him to set up an impromptu match... which Lee promptly lost.

While the match was competitive, WWE doesn't exactly have the best history with turning tag team wrestlers who suddenly find themselves as singles competitors into stars. Still, at least they got Lee back on TV pretty quickly. He's certainly talented, and as Wade Barrett noted on commentary, the entire situation involving the NXT tag titles were from no fault of Lee's.
