Why Buddy Matthews Missed AEW TV Tapings This Week

The House of Black wrestler was conspicuous by his absence on AEW Dynamite.

Despite this week's AEW Dynamite being a big one for the House of Black, whose Brody King challenged for Jon Moxley's Interim AEW World Championship in the main event, group member Buddy Matthews was nowhere to be seen.

King ended up falling to Moxley to a clean finish with no interference from his stablemates. Earlier, Malakai Black cut a promo promising that the pain inflicted by the House that night would transcend the physical realm, though he didn't show up during the bout.

But what of Buddy Matthews, the group's newest member?

He was in Australia.

Matthews is currently in his homeland to work a tour for World Series Wrestling. Dave Meltzer reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Ring Of Honor Champion Jonathan Gresham was originally booked for the same tour before being pulled by AEW, who needed the contracted star for the build to ROH Death Before Dishonor (23 July). Brian Cage, who remains under AEW contract despite only appearing in ROH since October 2021.

AEW's 22 June Dark: Elevation tapings hosted Matthews' last match for the promotion - a win for Buddy and King over enhancement talents Brubaker and CJ Esparza.
