Why Darby Allin Didn't Like The Independent Wrestling Scene

Darby Allin couldn't stand one specific thing about the indy wrestling scene pre-AEW.

AEW star Darby Allin had a bit of a love/hate relationship with independent wrestling before joining Tony Khan's wrestling revolution.

On indy shows, Allin told Chris Van Vliet's 'Insight' show that he's "happy [he doesn't] do them anymore". Why? Well, Darby thought that it was more important to buddy up with the right people rather than be talented - he'd also sit back and wonder why he wasn't getting the opportunities some others were despite being more skilled.

Then, the penny dropped.

Darby realised that some were only getting ahead because they'd suck up to the right people or go out drinking after shows. That "ass-kissing" life didn't suit Allin, and he point blank refused to do it. So, he didn't, but he knows that his staunch refusal to hang out or pretend to be friendly held him back.

It's not something he has to worry about in AEW, thankfully. Darby's personality behind the scenes hasn't changed, and yet he's had countless chances to show what he can do on the big stage; his TNT Title win and match with CM Punk prove that.

Allin just couldn't stand some of the "fake" behaviour he witnessed on the indy circuit.
