Drew Gulak and Heath Slater have benefitted from unexpected elevations on WWE SmackDown lately, with the talented undercard duo working with former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan as part of his current storyline.

Their mini-pushes seemingly came out of nowhere. Slater had pretty much become a ghost since the dissolution of his partnership with Rhyno while Gulak was only really featuring as a jobber. Neither of them are putting win streaks together, but their usage rates are much improved and they're rubbing shoulders with one of the best in the world.

Where did all of this come from? Bryan himself, apparently.

This is according to WrestlingNews.co, who report that Daniel suggested to WWE that Slater and Gulak should help forge his current direction. They add that Bryan is constantly pitching ideas to creative. They aren't always used, of course, but WWE respects him and it's believed that there'll be a backstage job waiting for him when he eventually steps away from the squared circle.

Hearing stories like this is always heartening. Slater and Gulak are versatile, talented guys who have performed well in every single role they've been given, and it's good to know Bryan has their back.
