Roman Reigns has been the talk of the internet over the past few days, with the reigning Undisputed WWE Universal Champion sparking speculation on his future through a house show promo claiming he was entering a "new phase" in his wrestling career.

In a follow-up report, Fightful Select noted, amongst other things, that the pervading belief within WWE was that Reigns was factored into current creative plans and wouldn't be leaving anytime soon. Now, Dave Meltzer has come through with the apparent meaning behind Reigns' promo.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer stated that Roman has signed a new WWE contract for fewer dates. Reigns will be working a more relaxed house show going forward - which may explain why he told the Trenton, New Jersey crowd that he didn't know if he'd ever be back there.

Continuing, Meltzer called the favourable contract a perk of being so tenured and valuable to WWE, comparing Roman's new deal to those enjoyed by Brock Lesnar and Hulk Hogan.

Reigns was victorious in WrestleMania Backlash's 2022's main event last night, pinning Riddle to earn The Bloodline the win over RK-Bro and Drew McIntyre.
