Will Ospreay Signs With New Japan
British star confirms signing on Twitter.
Will Ospreay, a 22-year-old English star who has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting and talented junior heavyweights in the entire world, has officially signed with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Ospreay confirmed his employment with the company on Twitter, as well as his intention to enter and win the 23rd annual Best of the Super Juniors tournament next month.
Ospreay made his New Japan debut at Invasion Attack on April 10, unsuccessfully challenging for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title but impressing many first-time viewers. His debut came with a good deal of fanfare, as last month, then-IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada announced Ospreay as the newest member of his CHAOS stable.
Despite being featured on the company's last Pay-Per-View, Ospreay had not yet signed a contract, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer. There was reportedly interest in him from WWE officials, who are currently gathering talent for the upcoming Global Cruiserweight Series.
According to a tweet from Major League Wrestling, WWE and two other organizations were pursuing Ospreay, who was working with TNA prior to joining New Japan.
