Will We See Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar At WWE SummerSlam 2014?
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is now reporting Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar as the confirmed SummerSlam main event. The long term plan is this will be for the title, but circumstances around Bryan's health could change that, he's reportedly struggling to regain fitness. The Observer also indicates that Lesnar vs Cesaro could take place shortly after SummerSlam as part of Cesaro's turn. A great guess would be that Cesaro wins Money In The Bank, Lesnar beats Bryan, then Cesaro blind sides Brock to steal the championship. However, Bryan's rehabilitation from neck surgery is not going as well as expected. One person close to the situation has told the Observer that Bryan is making no gains. Worst still, he's actually losing strength in his arm while doing the rehab, which is very concerning indeed. He's the most talked about backstage subject in WWE right now and has just been sent to Dr Joseph Maroon in hopes of identifying why he isn't healing. This throws fresh doubt on Bryan's chances of competing against Kane at Money In The Bank. In some ways it would be exciting to see the title vacated and on the line in the ladder match, but that would be an absolutely devastating move to Bryan's momentum led career. It would probably nullify the Lesnar match at SummerSlam too. One idea being discussed is that the vacant title would be on the line in a main ladder match, with the briefcase title shot on the line in a second ladder match. Bryan has just a few weeks to change the situation and there are some concerns that internal pressure will force his mental toughness into competing even if not fully fit.
