Baron Corbin has made serious inroads into the SmackDown upper-card in the past few months, and his push looks set to continue ahead of WrestleMania 33.

Having feuded with WWE Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose on recent shows, Corbin is expected to challenge for the belt in Orlando, and this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggests that a big push is on the horizon.

As reported in the Observer, Corbin is regarded as a "handpicked star" who will likely be given the Intercontinental Title to use as a stepping stone towards the top of the card. There's no guarantee the title change will happen at Mania, but a win over Ambrose on the biggest show of the year would solidify him as a major star.

Corbin has flirted with the main event scene in recent months, and competed for the WWE Championship inside the Elimination Chamber last week. Ambrose pinned Corbin with a roll-up, however, prompting the post-elimination beatdown that kick-started their feud.

The situation escalated when Corbin gave Ambrose another mauling ahead of a match with James Ellsworth on this week's SmackDown. There are still 6 weeks to go, but Corbin vs. Ambrose seems certain for April 2nd.
