World Of Sport Wrestling Returning To ITV In June
Tapings for an initial 10-episode series take place in May.
World of Sport is set to return to British television for the first time in over 30 years, as confirmed by ITV and Impact Wrestling through Mirror Online. Starting with tapings in Preston on May 25th and 26th, the show will take the form of a 10-episode series largely funded by Anthem Entertainment, Impact's parent company.
Anthem met with ITV to discuss the WOS resurrection last month, and Jeff Jarrett is expected to run the wrestling side of the venture. As reported, World of Sport will resume its traditional Saturday afternoon timeslot, where it previously aired every week in the UK from 1965 to 1985.
ITV revived WOS for a one-off special on New Year's eve, drawing over a million viewers, and convincing the broadcaster of a full series' viability. There'll be an official launch announcement on March 27th, and wrestlers like Grado, Davey Boy Smith Jr., and Dave Mastiff are featured on the promotional material. TNA's Rockstar Spud and Magnus will also be part of the roster.
Jim Ross has reportedly been earmarked as the show's host, and could resume his pilot episode announcing partnership with Alex Shane. Tickets for the tapings go on sale on April 7th at GigsandTours.com, Ticketmaster.co.uk, and PrestonGuildHall.co.uk.
