Within the last week, rumors have started spreading that WWE is considering a return to the New York area for WrestleMania 34.

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer acknowledged the rumors in this week's issue, confirming that the company has talked about hosting the event at East Rutherford, NJ's MetLife Stadium, but it's far from definite.

The New York area has already hosted five WrestleManias, more than any other location in history. WrestleManias I, X, and XX were held at WWE's longtime home base of Madison Square Garden, while the first four matches of WrestleMania II came from Long Island's Nassau Coliseum. In 2013, the NY metropolitan area hosted its first stadium WrestleMania at MetLife Stadium. That show, headlined by the second battle between The Rock and John Cena, set what was, at the time, a record for WWE's highest-grossing live event.

One impediment to New York's hosting the event is the fact that the city has supplanted Los Angeles as the semi-permanent home of SummerSlam. In 2015, WWE booked Brooklyn's Barclays Center for three straight dates - NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, SummerSlam, and Raw.

All three events were sellouts, and the company subsequently announced that they'd hold the same three shows in Barclays Center in 2016 and 2017.
