The Wrestling Observer reports that Gunther working with Seth Rollins on the grand stage at WrestleMania 42 has been in the works for a while now. According to The Observer, that match "has been the plan for several weeks", and the story between Rollins and Paul Heyman was "always to build for Gunther choking Rollins out in Madison Square Garden" on Monday's episode of Raw.

Interestingly, the report claims that Bron Breakker (who was believed to be WWE's number one choice to face Seth at 'Mania) has been medically cleared following hernia surgery. He's been waiting in the wings for a go ahead, but the creative team ultimately decided to go with the 'Ring General' instead.

Why? Well, according to Dave Meltzer, it's so Triple H and his team of writers don't have to "rush into the match". He said that the booking will get to Rollins vs. Breakker eventually, but WWE "are wanting the proper television build time".

To that point, Gunther coming in as Seth's opponent "stemmed from the injury to Bronson Reed". The Vision has been absolutely decimated with injuries stretching back to Rollins time as the group's leader, so WWE has had to pivot, pivot then pivot again on plans ever since.

There had been fears that Gunther might miss out on WrestleMania 42 completely. That would've been a shame for him after retiring Bill Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles since last summer. Rumours of a match vs. Rey Mysterio have been put to bed - Gunther will be up against Rollins across 18-19 April in Las Vegas.
