WWE: 10 Glorious Uses Of Celebrities At WrestleMania

1. Mike Tyson - WrestleMania 14

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eV-gIqSL6lg The best use of a celebrity at WrestleMania ever is Mike Tyson at WrestleMania 14. Timing is everything in wrestling. At the time in early 1998, Tyson was suspended from boxing for biting the ear of Evander Holyfield. He had this aura around him as an unpredictable crazy man that could snap at any time. That made him the perfect fit for WrestleMania! With Steve Austin's star on the rise heading into WrestleMania 14, it made a lot of sense for Tyson to be announced as the special enforcer outside the ring for Austin's World Title match against Shawn Michaels. The build up to it was great with the Austin shoving match Tyson on Raw, plus Tyson joining Michaels' DX group, which made it look like Austin was at a disadvantage. There was a risk with signing Tyson too. What if he didn't do what WWE wanted? It could have hurt the company big time. Instead, he was perfect for the role and the company took off soon after. That's not to say Tyson was the reason WWE became a bigger company. He was only there for a handful of shows. It's just that his presence coupled with the rise of the Attitude Era really set the wheels in motion for WWE. The Tyson signing worked out for WWE. He's one of the most well known athletes all over the world from any era. Everybody knows who Mike Tyson is, so for WWE to sign him when he was arguably as popular as ever (he certainly had his detractors too), it was a major coup for them. Whatever they paid him was the right call on their part because he was worth every penny and proof that the right celebrity at the right time can make a huge different at a major event like WrestleMania.
