WWE: 10 Most Inventive Big Match Match Finishes Ever

4. The Rock vs. Mankind - Mankind Quits Out Of Context

Event: Royal Rumble 1999 The Finish: The infamous Rock / Mandkind I Quit Match is a brutally violent affair that left everyone feeling woefully uncomfortable, and is even worse in hindsight, with tons of awful looking chairshots to the head and a lot of generally unsafe looking maneuvers and bumps. But the finish featured a pretty inventive detail that was essentially a cop-out, but a cool cop-out none-the-less. Since Mick Foley would never quit, and they didn't want The Rock to lose, the Corporation used some prior interview footage, doctored it, and played it while Mankind was out cold in a creative twist that left many viewers shocked and thinking something wasn't quite right with the way Mankind gave up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBFQ81l7iK0 The Impact: The Rock went from a character who was largely a pompous jerk to someone who clearly had a mean streak and was willing to break and maim anyone who came between him and his goals. The feud between Mankind and The Rock continued over a several matches - all with inventive ideas with varying degrees of execution. Half Time Heat involved the infamous "Forklift POV" pin that broke any and all reality the match was trying to create, and their next PPV match featured one of the few double count-outs in a Last Man Standing Match ever, and is a nice little companion piece to this brutal endeavor.
