WWE's Apollo Crews Gets A New Ring Name

The Titus Worldwide man loses his surname.

Raw Superstar Apollo Crews became the latest WWE wrestler to lose his surname last night, with the company now referring to him only as "Apollo" across WWE.com.

The changes have been reflected on social media, too, with the Titus Worldwide man dropping the surname from his Twitter title (though his handle remains @ApolloCrews).

Simplifying wrestlers' ring names is nothing new for WWE. They've been at it for years, with Elias losing "Samson," and Antonio Cesaro and Alexander Rusev dropping their forenames among notable recent examples. Conversely, SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte embraced her heritage with the Flair surname last year, but such instances are rare.

Apollo hasn't had many opportunities since joining WWE's main roster, but has had a quietly impressive start to 2018. He has excelled in recent matches with The Miz and The Bar, and the name change suggests that perhaps WWE haven't abandoned hope in him, and that a push may finally be on the way.

After defeating Sheamus and Cesaro on last night's Raw, Apollo and Titus O'Neil look set for a Raw Tag Title shot at Elimination Chamber this weekend. Let's see if the change delivers instant results.
