WWE: 9 Story Lines In Early 1999 That Sucked

6. Mr Ass Wins The 1999 King Of The Ring

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIOtUAcH9Jw In the aftermath of Wrestlemania XV, D-Generation X was a faction without a real leader after Triple H turned on the group and took Chyna with him. X-Pac won the tag team titles with Kane, Road Dogg was Intercontinental Champion feuding with the likes of Goldust and the Godfather and Billy Gunn was the Hardcore Champion. Soon after dropping their respective titles, the New Age Outlaws started teaming again, but only for a short time as Gunn turned on DX. The move was to set him up for the King of the Ring Tournament and make him a big star. As part of his transition, he proclaimed himself Mr Ass, for a brief time wore see-through trunks and adopted the Ass Man theme song. He was loosely-aligned with Triple H and Chyna, but wasn't a part of the Corporate Ministry of any other group. At King of the Ring 1999, Mr Ass defeated Ken Shamrock (who had been previously attacked by Steve Blackman), Kane (via interference from the Big Show) and an injured X-Pac in the finals to become King Ass. However, Gunn didn't receive the royal honors like previous winners. No robe, no crown, no scepter and no coronation. Most importantly, there was no PPV title shot. Shortly after winning, Gunn teamed with Chyna, who had begun to separate herself from the Corporate Ministry, to face X-Pac and Road Dogg for the rights to the DX name. The faces won and Gunn shortly feuded with the Rock, culminated at Summerslame with the Rock shoving Gunn's face up a large woman's ass. It was the last taste of the big time for Gunn as he reconciled with Road Dogg shortly after. So what was the point of Gunn winning KOTR? Apparently it was so that he could lose the rights to the DX name, get verbally abused by The rock, get his face shoved up a large woman's ass and reconcile with his former team mate all in a span of three months.
